My Story

I learned analysis the expensive way.

Ten years of running a bakery, one balance sheet at a time. This is how a founder became an analyst.

Ekwo Nzubechi Joy, arms crossed, wearing a navy blazer over a red top.

I started Natenzzy Foods in Nsukka with a mixer, a recipe and no safety net. Ten years later the business is in Enugu and has grown past ₦90M in annual revenue. I did not inherit capital. I did not have a network. I learned to read a balance sheet because I had to sign the bottom of it. Owning something means every mistake comes out of your own pocket, and that changes how you look at a number. You stop admiring it. You start asking what it wants from you.

Nobody tells you which product is losing money. You find out slowly, by wondering. Packaging costs drift up, a supplier changes flour, and the price list stays where it was 18 months ago. Two lines that looked profitable were not. Waste piled in corners because measuring it was nobody's job, so it stayed invisible. It was a slow bleed. I noticed it in the bank balance before I noticed it anywhere else.

So I started tracking. Sales, expenses and production, line by line, shift by shift. I built the models in Excel first, then in Power BI when the questions got bigger than a spreadsheet. Product sales rose 76%. Waste fell 15 to 20%. Efficiency improved by around a fifth. It was not clever. It was attention.

ALX Data Analytics gave the instincts a vocabulary. The AI Accelerator Bootcamp at Attention Factory gave them tools. I use Power BI, SQL and Excel daily now. My B.Tech is in Prosthetics and Orthotics from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, a field that teaches precision because a millimetre matters, and empathy because the thing you build gets worn by a person. Clinical work at Rosa Mystica Hospital taught me record integrity: a note is only useful if it is accurate, complete and legible under pressure. Those habits travel.

"I have made decisions with my own money on the line. I do not just build dashboards, I know what it feels like to act on one."
